SG’s Website Brings New Meaning to the Word Useless

If students want to find out what’s going on with Student Government, there is one place they shouldn’t visit – SG’s website.

From looking at their site, students would never know that they are rewriting their constitution, or putting together a $64,000 event called the Keys to Success Seminar.

But what you will find out on the home page is “SGA News: Elections Are Here!” Yeah, from July of 2006.

Under the latest news section on the UWC link there is no news. Under Boca and Broward’s link - no news.

Under Jupiter’s link, however, it says “Student Government has been working diligently to successfully complete presidential elections while maintaining forward progress on the individual campuses.” Presidential elections were completed more than five months ago.

While in Treasure Coast they’re hosting a University Wide Council meeting on March 24, 2006. Oh, and there’s a book voucher treasure hunt taking place on April 5, again in 2006.

If someone takes the time to wade through all of the links, they eventually may come to a link for Student Government’s Program Board – the Boca SG's event planning arm. Follow that link and students can find a whole host of upcoming events taking place. That’s assuming the average student knows to look under campus agencies to get there. Unfortunately, the average student doesn’t know what the hell a campus agency is.

And congratulations to Chris Mack, who according the SG’s website, is the Boca senate’s parliamentarian. Last time I attended a senate meeting he was the senate pro tempore.

Someone might think that with a $6.5 million budget, SG could at least update their website on monthly basis. A weekly basis may be a stretch.

Well, I wouldn't put it on the webmaster himself, he can only put up what the UWC and the other campus's tell him to put up there.

You have seen how bad the communication is in SGA, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if they could care less about the website and didn't even bother to give the webmaster any info.

Look at the marquee. For the past 2 years there has been a marquee specialist. There hasn't been one in months and the marquee is dead.

Obviously the higher ups must not like technology.

I bet it frustrates the webmaster as much as the students to not be able to do any updates.

The website has been updated. The marquee is in the process of being fixed. SG asked Dr. Bates to put out a request for proposal to find if anyone has the expertise to repair it.
